Tree Care Pruning

Each tree offers a unique challenge, and different objectives may be required when pruning trees such as: Maintenance, Thinning, Crown Reduction, Elevation, Dead Wooding, Roof and Building Clearance, Pleaching, Pollarding, Espalier (ANSI A300).

Removals
Unfortunately there are occasions when a tree needs to be removed due to a structural defect, root decay or root damage. If needed, a crane will be used for removal and generally shortens the process and reduces cost, as well as, protects the property.

A tree with an excessive lean over a house is being removed. Downey
Trees utilized our 30 ton crane to execute a safe and efficient removal.

Cable and Bracing
Some trees may grow with a flaw like included bark. This creates a weak branch union. In such situations it may be necessary to install cables for additional support.

A falling branch had damaged this Japanese Maple (right) tearing branches, ripping off bark and cracking the stem. Bolts were used to hold the stem together, and a series of cables was installed in the canopy to support the branches. In addition the bark was traced.

Lightning Protection Systems
Primarily used on golf courses, Lightning Protection Systems can be installed in your trees. The system consists of a copper cable attached on the outer surface of the tree to a ground rod. If the tree is struck by lightning, it follows the path of least resistance, through the cable to the ground without damaging the tree.
