A comprehensive management program should be established to prevent infestations from occurring and aid in the reduction of those existing.  So take a close look at your trees and shrubs, if you see any of these critters contact one of our arborists to obtain a full evaluation.

Name that tree:
This tree is one of the most useful flowering trees in the southeast providing abundant summer color with minimum maintenance.  Once established this beauty can withstand droughts and is relatively free of disease and insect difficulties.  It is commonly pruned in shrub form because of it’s flower, but it is actually a tree that can grow up to 30-feet tall.  E-mail your answer to us at: newsletter@downeytreesinc.com.

LeafletText Box: Professor Funguy says…
Scale are nasty little critters that feed on your trees or shrubs. They can be unsightly, impair plant vitality and worst of all poop all over your car.  These critters have complex life cycles so control methods are designed and implemented based on the type of scale and location of the plant in question.

What’s up at Downey?
Downey Trees provides, upon request, a variety of safety and educational programs to the community and other industry professionals as a part of our Professional Development & Education services.  Recently, Downey Trees hosted a workshop on aerial rescue and emergency response for area tree companies and local arborists.  The workshop included an overview of the ANSI Z133.1-2006 safety standards and regulations, demonstrations of various rescue techniques by the instructors, and practice runs by the class participants.  The most important factors governing any emergency are care of the victim and the safety of the person performing the rescue.  For the full article on this event please visit our web site.
